A Mother-Daughter Duo
"Education... beyond all other devices of human origin, is the great equalizer of the conditions of men."
– Horace Mann

I recently graduated from Columbia University, where I studied economics with a concentration in psychology. My academic work focused on understanding how people make decisions, how incentives shape behavior, and how structure and guidance can reduce uncertainty and stress, especially in high-achieving environments.
At Columbia, I served as President of the Columbia Science Review, a student-run publication dedicated to making complex scientific topics accessible to a broader audience. I led a team of thirty writers and editors, managed a multi-thousand-dollar budget, and oversaw events and publications that helped students engage thoughtfully with contemporary scientific research. I was also involved in organizing interdisciplinary programming, including events focused on sustainability and the social impact of science.
Before college, I was deeply involved in academic and extracurricular pursuits that required sustained commitment and independent initiative. I ranked tenth nationally in Original Oratory through the National Speech and Debate Association, served as president of both the French National Honor Society and National Honor Society, and competed in science-based organizations including HOSA and Science Olympiad. I also played girls varsity tennis for four years and earned the Congressional Bronze Medal Award for community service and achievement.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with more than twenty years of experience working with adolescents and families. I earned my master's degree in counseling from Rollins College, where my training focused on adolescent development, strengths identification, and helping young people navigate periods of transition with confidence.
In addition to my professional work, I am a solo parent who guided three children through the admissions process and into Ivy League institutions. That experience gave me firsthand insight into both the emotional and practical realities families face, including the stress, uncertainty, and pressure that often accompany these decisions.
Furthermore, I am an Amazon best-selling author and a lifelong athlete. I am a two-time All-American and am currently ranked number three nationally in USTA Women's Doubles Tennis in the 55+ division. These experiences have shaped my belief in discipline, perseverance, and steady growth over time.
"My approach focuses on uncovering the strengths students already have and showing them how to grow with purpose and confidence."
Pamela Saffran, LMHC
Prentice was created by a family that has navigated the admissions process firsthand. We built the tool we wish we had, one that reduces stress, prioritizes fit, and helps students grow.
My father grew up in a first-generation immigrant family. His parents came to this country without speaking English, and education became his path forward. He attended the Bronx High School of Science and went on to Columbia University at just sixteen years old. When he passed away while I was young, he left behind a clear belief that education is the great equalizer.
My mother carried that belief forward as a solo parent. Honoring my father's foundation, she guided all three of her children through the admissions process and into Ivy League institutions, Yale and Columbia, by focusing on strengths, curiosity, and steady growth over time. Our family also established a scholarship in my father's name to support students who have lost a parent. That commitment to access, resilience, and opportunity continues to shape how we think about education and why we built Prentice the way we did.
Prentice exists to bring clarity where there is confusion. We believe students do best when they understand their strengths, explore opportunities intentionally, and feel supported. Our goal is not to tell students who to become, but to give families the structure and insight they need to make thoughtful, informed decisions at every stage.
